The effort to rebuild all of the privies along the Appalachian Trail in Maine continues. The Little Bigelow privy is the first of three being rebuilt this year. Providing functional privies for hikers helps to concentrate our impacts on the Trail. Thus, protecting the Trail and the land it traverses through.
Join the Maine Appalachian Trail Club (MATC) on Saturday, June 1 and/or Sunday, June 2 as they start leveling the ground of the privy site, as well as building the structure.
The group will be car camping approximately 1.5 miles from the privy construction site. Volunteers are welcome to help for just one day, or spend the night and volunteer on Saturday and Sunday. No experience needed, everyone is welcome to join in on the fun.
Be sure to wear sturdy boots, long pants, and work gloves. Also, bring your own lunch, personal snacks, a rain jacket, insect repellent, and plenty of water.
