Join the Tennessee Eastman Hiking Canoeing Club on Wednesday, May 15 at 8:30 a.m.
and help remove graffiti from the Curly Maple Gap Shelter and possibly help rehab some section of the Appalachian Trail.
Curly Maple Gap shelter was rebuilt in 2010. However, it has collected an abundance of graffiti which is quite unsightly. So the goal for this month’s trip will be to paint the interior of the shelter and cover up all the graffiti.
For those folks who may not wish to climb around inside a shelter and get paint on themselves, there will also be an opportunity to do actual trail work. There are a few places between Indian Grave Gap and the shelter that need some rehabbing and we hope to address that also.
All materials and tools will be provided. Please be sure to wear long pants and sturdy boots. Consider wearing clothes you wouldn't mind getting paint. Bring plenty of water and snacks, a lunch, work gloves, bug spray, sunscreen, and a rain jacket.
The group will meet in front of the Parkway Discount Wine and Liquor Store on South Roan Street in Johnson City at 8:30 a.m. to carpool to the trailhead. Other meeting places can be arranged with prior notice. Please register by Wednesday, May 15 if you plan to participate or if you would like to arrange an alternate meeting place.
