The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is offering a Educator Course in the Mount Rogers National Recreation area this August! Always a favorite location, the MRNRA encompasses the two highest peaks in the state of Virginia, four Wilderness Areas, and 60 miles of the A.T.
This 5-day course is designed for individuals who are actively teaching others backcountry skills or providing recreation information to the public. Through classroom discussion, lectures, and a 4-day backpacking trip, participants will receive an in-depth and hands-on study of the seven principles and wildland ethics, and learn a variety of ways to share and disseminate low-impact recreation skills to other visitors.
Cost: $630 for Appalachian Trail Conservancy members (additional discount for A.T. Club members and agency partners) and $700 for all others. Course fee includes instruction, curriculum and teaching materials, a subscription to the Leave No Trace Center’s “The Resource” and a one-year Leave No Trace
Membership. Lodging at the Konnarock Trail Crew Base Camp (on Day #1), meals Day #1 lunch through Day #5 lunch, group equipment, and transportation during the course are also included.
