Jim Beckmann

Position: Next Generation Advisory Council Member

I was raised in Arlington VA and have spent the last 10 years living in Richmond VA. I enjoy trail running, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, and volunteering/working in the outdoor community.

I work full time as a Business Development Manager at UDig, providing technology consulting services. I work part-time as a wilderness skills instructor for L.L. Bean where I teach in field skills, guide hikes, and facilitate workshops at local outdoor events. I am also an ambassador with SportsBackers, a local non-profit, helping promote the physically active community with outdoor events and programs in Richmond, and volunteer with other local nonprofits helping with trail cleanups and maintenance.

When I am not working, instructing, or volunteering I spend a lot of time hiking and backpacking on the AT in the mid-Atlantic. I really enjoy taking people out on the trail for their first overnight, where they can experience the outdoors with a new perspective. I am a large proponent of sustainability and trail preservation, so people can enjoy the experience on the AT for years to come. I am slowly chipping away at section hiking the AT, with the goal of raising awareness of alternatives to thru-hiking, one long weekend at a time!
